I see that CCL is up to 16 teams for Fall 2014. Are the clubs grouped regionally? or does for example Frederick travel all the wayto Richmond for a Saturday game?

Soccersins - I found the schedule at www.clubchampionsleague.com/wp-content/uploads/2013-14-CCL-Schedule-SPRING-11-18.pdf so it appears that FC Frederick heads to FC Richmond on April 27. Here is a question to those in CCL (I am not so I don't know) - It looks like they sometimes split the age group 11-14 and 15-18. This seems to be contrary to the CCL concept: "Each club’s entire contingent of teams (U11-U18, boys and girls) travels together to all away games. Start times are staggered allowing coaching directors and multiplayer families to watch several games. The compact schedule also provides each club with greater flexibility in scheduling tournaments and friendly games during the regular season." Is it working well? I get that there are pros and cons to both the "Club-centric" model of CCL and the "Team-centric" of more traditional leagues.

I believe the reason the split the club between those age groups is because the challenges of Maryland playing high school soccer in the Fall and Virginia in the Spring so when can you find the time when both teams have their players focus on the club team at the same time. To answer a different question, yes there is times that FC Frederick travels to Richmond or VA beach for a weekend game. They try to make the longer distance trips a twofer weekend where they would play to VA Beach (Saturday) and Williamsburg (Sunday) to reduce the amount of travel and keep the games that are closer for the one on the weekend trips.

Per PSW, it seems that Mclean is taking PWSI's CCL slot. PWSI is leaving since their entry in to the DA means that they can't field their top team in CCL. This is ostensibly why Bethesda left CCL last year because, on the girls side, its top teams are in ECNL. So, what about Mclean - also an ECNL club that will presummably leave its top teams in the older age groups in ECNL and put second teams into CCL?
Just like we saw a few years ago when the number of clubs exploded and just about any player with "premiere" aspirations could find a team, we seem to be seeing the same thing with the proliferation of leagues. The new VA NPL is pulling some teams from CCL, CCL is scrambling to find replacements. ECNL takes a level of commitment from club and players/parents that some just aren't ready for. Teams jump from club to club to fill open age-groups because Clubs can't meet league requirements (yet, clubs still tout "development" despite the wholesale importation of the these teams). The NPL sees its national championship series as being a differentiator but that impacts a handful of teams and competes against State Cup, Presidents Cup, ECNL and the regional leagues. I think the CCL, as it is currently run, doesn't work beyond a certain number of clubs and the size of the geographic region.
Some sort of contraction seems inevitable. I'm not sure if it'll be a return to a WAGS/NCSL style league or something new and different, but it will happen. Economically, there are too many leagues and clubs trying to go after the money that we parents are willing to shell out. Eventually, someone is bound to say enough is enough, some realism will creep back in, the bubble will burst and we'll start enjoying youth sports just as a way for our kids to get some exercise, friends, and life experiences.

Not sure if anyone is still posting in this forum but I'll give it a shot.
So word is out that Annandale is leaving CCL and LMVSC is taking it's place. Overall, probably a slight dilution of the CCL brand, but a bigger hit to WAGS as another club has decided to that WAGS doesn't offer sufficient competition for its top teams.
McLean's addition to CCL has been anti-climatic as their top teams are still playing ECNL so other clubs are facing McLean's B team, with the results being what you would expect.

SoccerDad - First, thanks for posting again. There hasn't been much in months, unfortunately.
LMVSC's teams in WAGS are mostly lower division teams, although I haven't checked all age groups, so a move for them hurts WAGS in terms of being another club who has left. I don't disagree that the leagues are diluted but it is not limited to WAGS, although it probably has been hurt more than others.
It will be interesting to see if US Soccer follows through with its plans to overhaul the girls side. Direction and unification from the US Federation would go a long way in cleaning up this mess, but it will take years to accomplish.
