How did everyone do in State Cup? Day one featured a ferocious wind and a few upsets, it seems.

The MD State Cup site seems to be a bit slow in updating Sunday's scores - anyone see any games this weekend?
For the girls, the U15 group seems to be on par with prior years with the last year's champion ASA Azzurri being the favorite but facing DCST in the semis. Anyone know who won the PSC/FC Frederick Matchup? SEVP got a bit fortunate with a wind-assisted win in the first round. Did they make it through to the semis?
Anyone know of anything in the other age groups or for the Boy's side?

Website is finally updated - at U15 girls is a ASA vs DCST and PSC vs MUFC (Freestate), setting up a potential ASA vs PSC final. Even with no kids on kids' friends on those teams, I still might rouse myself to catch that game. Does anyone know why SAC Premiere Blue (U14) opted out of State Cup this year?

At the U12 level, the word did not get out very well so only a few teams, 6 (from only 3 clubs on the girls side), entered the tournament. There is also the issue of value at that level. The focus for all youth soocer should be development stronger individuals and players and to acheive that goal there should be more promotion of practices than games, especially tournaments. By having more practice/scrimmages time, it creates more environments where they, the children, can take risks without any consequences and hopefully without much pressure from parents. I think when you play a State Cup at younger ages, it is too pressurized for a group of children and just adds more "tests" like the schools as opposed to a positive learning environment.

Looks like the U15G final will be the match up most people want to see: ASC Azurri vs. PSC Real (but they'll always be the Cobras to me). Both won their semis in convincing fashion it seems.

Welp other interesting ones the MRM Coyotes Breezed through at U16 girls and will play Pipeline, U13 Bethesda rolls and will play MUFC Red which they have owned. The most interest semi on the Girls side was MUFC North Red (VCCL) lost to MUFC Red (WAGS) 4-3, which begs the question was the VCCL watching because it appears MUFC did not have thier top U12 girls team in VCCL as well.
On the boys side, how could you not like the U14 match up Fewster FC, an independent team verse Bayside, a small club from near the beach....

No surprises on the girls U15 and U16 sides with both the Azzurri and Coyotes putting up convincing scorelines. Did anyone see the matches?
Looks like the Coyotes didn't concede a goal in the tournament. Hopefully we'll get to see some Area State Champions come out of the regionals and return to the Soccerplex for the National Finals.
Congrats to all of the winners!

MSYSA had to reschedule a number of games due to conflicts with Region 1 Champions League but a fair number of games happened last weekend.
It looks like MUFC has a chance to take 2 of four semi-final slots at U12G U13G only had one match last weekend U14G had some lopsided scorelines. U15G has an very odd bracket with three byes? U16G saw the #1 PSC Real lose in the first round, helping the Azzurri's chances for a three-peat, although I'm sure the TSC/SAC/BAYS/TSC/SAC Siafu and FC Frederick will challenge. PSC went 0-3 in this age group with a combined 0-10 goal differential... U17G only had a couple of games with powerhouse MRM Coyotes yet to play.
Anyone have an insight on the boys side?
I will say that it is a disservice that these don't have a group-play or a losers bracket or at least a home-and-home format for the first round. At $600 for the entry fee, each team should get two games at a minimum. Why not allow the first round losers to have a game against others and a chance to fight their way back into the tournament?
